Visy’s container handling OCR systems bring automated recognition and real-time data exchange to every part of terminal operations – from ship-to-shore cranes on the quay to RTG and RMG cranes in the yard, and all the way down to individual pieces of container handling equipment.

At the core of every system is the same principle: automatically capture the container ID at the point of lift, validate it, and share it with the systems that depend on it. When OCR, PDS, and TOS work together seamlessly, terminals gain a live, accurate picture of where every container is – and every move that has been made.

Real-time event monitoring
Container handling events captured by Visy OCR systems are displayed in real-time in Visy Crane Gate. Operators and supervisors can follow lift-by-lift activity as it happens – with recognized container IDs, ISO codes, and other attributes immediately visible alongside the captured images.
Image review and inspection
High-quality images from all imaged container sides are accessible directly in the application. Images can be reviewed event by event, supporting container condition inspection, liability documentation, and exception resolution. See also Visy ADDS for automated container damage detection.
Exception handling
When the OCR system raises an exception – an unrecognized ID, a dangerous goods label, a seal discrepancy, or a TOS mismatch – Crane Gate presents it for immediate review and action. Operators can correct, confirm, or escalate events directly in the application, keeping data flowing to the TOS accurately and without delay.
Data editing and export
Recognition results can be reviewed and edited within the application. Event data and images can be exported for reporting, audit trails, and integration with third-party systems. Extensive TOS interfacing – supporting integrations with any TOS – ensures smooth data exchange across the terminal.
Wharf Dispatcher View
An add-on system module Wharf Application – is an integrated dispatcher view gives quayside coordinators full visibility of loading operations in real time – including terminal tractor positions, loading sequences, and communication with crane operators via the Visy Wharf App. Designed to keep every loading operation on track from a single interface.
