Visy’s Smart Rail solutions replace manual trackside work with automated imaging and real-time data capture. As trains pass through the Visy Train OCR Portal, every wagon and container is imaged, recognized, and reported to the TOS, automatically and without stopping the train. When pre-announced manifest data and captured data align, operations continue without interruption. When they don’t, the discrepancy is surfaced immediately for review and action in Visy Train Gate.

Train and rail cargo review and monitoring
Every train visit is logged in Train Gate with full details – locomotive and wagon IDs, container IDs, recognized attributes, timestamps, direction, and captured images from all sides. Operators can review train-by-train and wagon-by-wagon information in a clear, structured interface, with high-quality images accessible for each event.
Manifest validation and exception handling
Captured data from the OCR portal is shared with the TOS, which validates it against pre-announced train manifests. When differences are detected – a container not matching the manifest, an unrecognized wagon ID, or a flagged dangerous goods label – the event is presented in Train Gate for immediate review. Operators access the relevant images and data directly in the application to confirm, correct, or escalate as needed.
Dangerous goods and condition monitoring
Recognized dangerous goods labels, brake positions, and chemical tank covers are flagged automatically and visible in Train Gate – allowing inspection and reporting tasks to be completed from the office rather than trackside. High-quality images from all train sides support liability management for containers that arrive damaged.
TOS and third-party system integrations
All captured data and images are exchanged with the Terminal Operating System in real time, keeping train traffic records accurate and up to date. Train Gate also supports integration with customs inspection and X-ray systems – ensuring that all relevant parties receive the information they need, automatically and without manual data transfer.
Reporting and data export
Train traffic data, recognition results, and event images can be exported for reporting, audit trails, and operational analysis. Customizable views and filters make it straightforward to find, review, and share the information needed across teams and systems.
