Visy Truck OCR

Advanced container OCR and cargo data collection for automated gate operations.

Capturing and digitizing road cargo traffic at the gate, automatically and without interruption.

The Visy Truck OCR Portal images and digitizes road cargo traffic as vehicles drive through the portal – without interrupting traffic flow. Combining Visy’s proven machine vision and AI-based OCR software with high-performance line scan and area scan camera technologies, the system recognizes container IDs, ISO codes, IMO and ADR labels, seal presence, license plates, and door direction with market leading accuracy of 97–99.5%, even at speeds of up to 50 km/h.

Recognized data is instantly shared with terminal and logistics systems – TOS, GOS, ERP, or other third-party platforms – ensuring that only authorized vehicles and cargo pass through the gate. The system operates reliably 24/7 in all weather conditions, from -40°C to +50°C, making it a dependable backbone of automated gate operations at container terminals, logistics centers, industrial sites, and border control points.

Features

Truck OCR Portal
A robust portal frame housing line scan and area scan cameras, laser scanners, illuminators, and electrical cabinets.
Visy specialists select the correct hardware and lens configuration based on your lane layout and operational requirements. Supports two-directional operation with a small footprint.
Rear camera
Area scan camera captures images and identification data from the rear of the vehicle, including license plates (both rear and front) and container identifiers. Utilizes in-house ANPR software covering a wide range of nationalities.

Linescan imaging

High-resolution line scan cameras capture full-length images of the container sides as the vehicle passes through the portal. AI-based OCR software extracts container IDs, ISO codes, IMO/ADR labels, seal presence, and other identifiers with market-leading accuracy.

Volume measurement and weighing feature

Optional add-on using laser scanners and WIM (Weigh-in-Motion) scales to automatically record cargo dimensions and total vehicle weight. Data is seamlessly exchanged with Visy Access Gate GOS and connected terminal systems, supporting planning for vessel loading processes.
Device cabinet
Weatherproof electrical cabinet housing the portal’s computing and networking hardware. Designed for reliable 24/7 operation in demanding outdoor environments.

Every solution is configured to fit your operations.

Hardware & System
Portal hardware is configured to match your lane layout, traffic volume, and environmental conditions. Visy specialists select the appropriate camera types, lens configurations, laser scanners, and illuminators to ensure optimal recognition performance at your specific site.
Software & Applications
Visy IRIS OCR processes captured images to extract data. All recognized identifiers and captured event images are stored in the Visy Access Gate database and reviewed, managed, and exported through the Visy Access Gate desktop application, which also handles exception processing.
Integrations
Recognized data is exchanged in real time with Visy Access Gate GOS, TOS, ERP, and other third-party systems.
Configurations & Options
Available with optional add-on Visy ADDS (Automatic Container Damage Detection) for digitizing container condition data at the gate. Volume measurement and weighing (Visy Measurement Portal) can be integrated as an add-on for sites requiring cargo dimension and weight data.

One portal, connected to your entire operation

Real-time data exchange with TOS, GOS and ERP

Exception handling via Visy Access Gate

Add-on container damage detection

Add-on measurement features

All data captured at the portal is instantly available across connected systems, making the OCR event a starting point for a broader automated workflow – not just a gate record.

When a vehicle passes through the portal, the recognized identifiers are matched against booking data in the Terminal Operating System. If everything checks out, access is granted automatically without manual intervention. If there is a mismatch – a wrong container, an unexpected seal, or a missing booking – the event is flagged for exception handling directly in the Visy Access Gate interface, where operators can review the images and resolve the issue without leaving the system.

Weight and dimension data captured by the optional Visy Measurement Portal flows into the same transaction record, supporting vessel loading planning and eliminating the need for separate weighing steps elsewhere in the process.

For sites with Visy ADDS enabled, container condition images are captured and digitized at the point of entry or exit – creating a documented record of the container’s state that can be shared with carriers, customers, or customs without additional inspection steps.

Utilizing vision technology in gate automation ensures that each enter and exit is verified and recorded

Why Visy Truck OCR
