Visy’s R&D approach is built on a simple belief: the people closest to an operation know it best. Terminal operators, gate coordinators, rail clerks, and logistics managers deal with real friction every day – and many of them also have a clear idea of how that friction could be removed. Over the years, those conversations have shaped some of Visy’s most widely used features. Functionality that started as a single request is today running in daily operations across dozens of sites worldwide.

That is not an accident. It is the result of genuinely listening, evaluating ideas, and having the technical depth to turn good operational insight into working software and hardware. Visy’s development team works closely with customers throughout the process – from understanding the original need, through design and testing, to deployment and refinement in the field.

How development works at Visy

AI & OCR Recognition Features
New recognition capabilities are among the most requested development areas – and also the most technically demanding. For Visy to develop a new recognition feature, the target object or marking needs to be consistently visible in the camera image. In short – if the camera can see it, we can recognize it.
Visy needs access to sufficient real-world data from the customer’s environment to train and validate the model properly. This is not a limitation on ambition – it is what makes the end result reliable.
User Applications & Software Features
Visy’s user applications, including Visy Access Gate, web-based permit portals, booking systems, and reporting tools, share a common platform and database architecture. This means new features and workflow improvements can often be rolled out broadly once developed. If your operation has a specific workflow requirement, integration need, or user experience gap, it is worth discussing. Not every request leads to a new feature, but every request is evaluated seriously – and the ones that solve a real problem for multiple operations tend to move forward.
Hardware & System Configuration
Visy assembles and designs its systems in-house while using proven off-the-shelf components – cameras, enclosures, computing hardware, and networking equipment. This approach gives Visy flexibility in how systems are configured and adapted to different environments. Visy has established preferences for camera manufacturers and hardware components based on years of field experience, but is open to evaluating new hardware options when there is a clear technical or operational reason to do so. Starting work with a new hardware platform does require a product development process, and depending on the scope, this can affect project timelines and pricing. We will always be transparent about what that means in practice.
What Visy Focuses On
Visy develops AI and imaging solutions specifically for cargo handling, logistics, port and terminal operations, industrial facilities, railway operations, and government authorities. This focus is intentional – it is what allows Visy to go deep rather than broad, and to build systems that genuinely fit the environments they operate in. Feature and development requests that fall within these domains are always welcome. Requests that would take Visy outside them are not something we pursue, but we will always say so clearly and explain why.
