Termont Montréal is enhancing its terminal automation by implementing Kalmar’s SmartRead solution – powered by Visy OCR – on 44 cargo-handling units. The system is planned to go live in Q3 2025.
The deployment follows a successful pilot of OCR system on a reach stacker earlier in 2024 and supports Termont’s ongoing investment in automation. “Following a successful pilot on a reachs tacker in the first half of 2024, Termont has now decided to implement the OCR solution on 44 units in its cargo-handling equipment fleet,” said Troy Thompson, Director, Sales and Account Management, Kalmar Americas.
Termont’s equipment fleet includes RTGs, RMGs, top loaders, empty handlers, reach stackers, and terminal tractors. With SmartRead, Visy OCR will automatically capture container IDs during lift operations, providing real-time, accurate data to the TOS. “Turning every spreader into a smart device allows us to reduce errors and improve data accuracy,” said Marc André Damico, Project Manager Automation at Termont.
Kalmar will provide system commissioning, TOS integration, and ongoing support.
